Turismo do Centro Brought Together
for the presentation of Oh Meu Deus
On Thursday, January 15, Turismo do Centro brought together, at the Seia Town Hall, a wide range of public entities and territorial partners for the presentation of the project Oh Meu Deus – Ultra Trail Centro de Portugal by UTMB.
The event, which has called Seia home for 11 years, is regarded as a key Nature Tourism event throughout the Central Mountain Range region. This year, it reaches a new level by joining the UTMB World Series, ensuring three years of promotion and development for the Centre of Portugal and attracting more than 2,400 athletes in its first year.
The session brought together representatives from the municipalities involved in the event, from Beira Interior and Pinhal Interior, as well as from the two intermunicipal communities involved, the Coimbra and Beiras region and Serra da Estrela, and various PROVERE programs and organizations linked to regional development. In addition to these entities, Horizontes-Turismo Desportivo, the event's organizer since 2011, the year the project was created, and the Trail Running Portugal Association were also present to share their testimony on the transformative nature of the sport and its growth potential.
During the meeting, the project’s principles and values were presented and discussed, as well as its full economic, tourism and identity potential for the Centre of Portugal region. The participating entities highlighted the project as a strategic opportunity to promote the territory internationally, showcasing the attractiveness of its landscapes, villages, and natural and cultural heritage.
The meeting also contributed to coordinating inputs and identifying inter‑municipal synergies, in a context considered decisive for strengthening a shared strategy around the event. The alignment of the PROVERE networks and all the municipalities involved was deemed essential to ensure scale, territorial coherence, and hosting capacity.
With a consolidated identity and integration into a leading international circuit, the event has established itself as a true attraction for Nature Tourism in the Central Mountain Range, strengthening the international visibility of central Portugal and driving an integrated, sustainable, long‑term territorial strategy.
